Basil
Ocimum basilicum · LamiaceaeIn one paragraph
Sweet basil is the familiar culinary herb, and its distilled oil is green, peppery and slightly anise-like, depending on the chemotype. In aromatic blending it is a sharp herbal note that cuts through heavier, sweeter oils.
How Nurtur Health uses it
Basil essential oil appears in the Mend and Move Body and Massage Oil, where it sits alongside rosemary and the conifers as part of the green, herbal character.
Traditional use
Traditionally used in massage preparations for tired muscles. Its folk association is with alertness and with the green end of the herbal spectrum.
