Ylang ylang

Cananga odorata · Annonaceae
In one paragraph

Ylang ylang is a tropical tree whose yellow flowers are distilled in successive fractions, each sweeter and heavier than the last. The aroma is rich, almost banana-like, and unmistakably floral. It is powerful enough that it is almost always used in small proportion.

How Nurtur Health uses it

Ylang ylang is used as a floral base note where the blend would otherwise be too green or too sharp.

Traditional use

Traditionally used in hair and skin preparations across Southeast Asia, and associated with softness and with scent rather than with any active purpose.
