Evening primrose

Oenothera biennis · Onagraceae
In one paragraph

Evening primrose is a tall biennial with pale yellow flowers that open at dusk. Its seed oil is one of the few plant sources of gamma-linolenic acid, and that profile is the entire reason it is used. It is delicate and oxidises readily.

How Nurtur Health uses it

Evening primrose oil appears in the face serum range, included for what it contributes rather than how it feels.

Traditional use

Used traditionally by Indigenous peoples of North America, and adopted into cosmetic use largely on the strength of its fatty-acid content.
